Create your own refillable vaporizers

Making a pillow mist or room spray is a simple and practical way to perfume your interior, your vehicle seats, but especially your textiles such as curtains or your cushions.

After discovering how to design a scented car diffuser, let’s now focus on creating scented mists. Whether it’s to establish a relaxing atmosphere, refresh your fabrics or fragrance the air, each mist or spray recipe serves a specific purpose, quite different from that of traditional reed diffusers.

What is the difference between a textile mist and a room spray?

At Terre de bougies, we consider it essential to clearly differentiate between these two types of preparations:

  • Room spray: designed to perfume the ambient air, it should not be applied to delicate textiles due to the presence of oil-based perfumes, which may stain.
  • Textile mist: formulated to perfume linen and fabrics, it uses a softer base accompanied by demineralized water, and can include a responsible preservative for better durability.

Our recipe for scented spray

A room spray is perfect for perfuming your room with all the fragrances in our range for candles, melts and diffusers. The advantage is that you have a considerable choice of fragrances, but these are not optimal.

The spray may cause stains on your textiles or sensitive surfaces. You should also refer to the maximum dosage allowed by the IFRA certificate for sale.

In this case, we recommend this recipe as a basis, to be adjusted according to IFRA and your tests:

  • 10% candle fragrance
  • 90% Augeo base

Follow IFRA recommendations (category 10B) to ensure safe and sale-compliant dosage. The certificate is available on each perfume sheet.

Pour all ingredients into a spray bottle, mix thoroughly and shake before each use. Spray into the air, avoiding sensitive surfaces and textiles.

Our tips for a successful fabric mist

Perfume your sheets, curtains or clothes without staining them, while using a much lower dosage. To do this, it is important to carefully follow the mixing steps according to the recipe. The preservative will easily double the shelf life of your mist, but it is optional.

  • 3% mist fragrance
  • 2 % Hebeatol preservative (optional)
  • 95 % demineralised water

Steps for a successful creation:

  1. Add the preservative to the fragrance.
  2. Slowly stir in the demineralised water.
  3. Always shake the bottle before use to homogenise the preparation.
  4. Lightly spray onto household linen, pillows, curtains or other fabrics.

You will obtain a homogeneous and clear mixture depending on the fragrance used.

To assist you, we have assigned each of our fragrances a score from 0 to 3 to reflect the opacity of the mist (0 = transparent, 1 = very light veil, 2 = medium veil, 3 = dense veil / pronounced milky appearance) :

  • Level 0 (transparent): Fleur d’oranger apaisante, Perle de bain, Musc / Coton, Souffle de pomelo, Fleur d’eucalyptus, Lavande relaxante et camomille, Fruits rouges, Nuit étoilée
  • Level 1 (very light veil): Fleur du soleil
  • Level 2 (medium veil): Monoï, Cocon, Cocoon
  • Level 3 (dense veil / pronounced milky appearance): Patchouli précieux, Fleur de Sakura, Talco, Pureté de coton, Gousse de vanille, Rêve de thé, Chèvrefeuille détente

You can gently heat the fragrance (30 °C maximum) before incorporating it. However, be aware that the preservative is subject to UFI.

Please note that Hebeatol® is not essential for the success of your pillow mists, but it simply extends their shelf life and the olfactory strength of the fragrances.

  • without preservative: 2 to 3 months.
  • with preservative: between 12 and 24 months.

Conclusion

Ultimately, creating your own room spray or linen mist allows you to control the composition and scent of each preparation. The key lies in the balance of ingredients and respecting the dosages.
