Concept of the personalised Gender Reveal candle
A gender reveal is an ante-natal celebration centred on a key moment: the announcement of the future baby's sex. This revelation often takes the form of a playful or spectacular display. Colourful cakes inside, balloons filled with confetti, smoke bombs or changing cocktails are some of the most common formats.
But there is a growing trend towards more intimate, long-lasting announcements. Offering a symbolic object that you can keep adds an extra emotional dimension.
This is precisely where the gender reveal candle comes into its own.
It can be used for any type of event, from a small family gathering to a more elaborate baby shower. As it melts, it gradually reveals the long-awaited colour, creating a suspended moment charged with emotion.
For professionals, this product offers a real advantage. It's made using classic cast candle techniques, without any major complexity. You can play around with the designs, from the most minimalist to the most creative, and offer boxes or sets as gifts. You can also offer versions in wax whipped cream to further personalise your gender reveal candles. Check out our latest tutorial for making a two-tone whipped wax creation.
Making your Gender Reveal candle
Making this candle is very simple, even for beginners. All you need are a few ingredients:
What you need
- Matt black metal can
- TCR 30/18 wick
- Olive wax for cast candles
- Perfume of your choice (here: Pinky Girl)
- Pink or blue dye, depending on the advert
- Serrated knife
- Wick stickers
- Wick centring tool
- Beaker
- Pipette
- Thermometer

Making your candle
- Prepare your container by attaching your wick to the bottom using a sticker or a dot of melted wax. Hold it straight with a wick centring device.
- Melt your vegetable wax at around 80°C in a bain-marie or in a melting machine. Keep a close eye on the temperature with a thermometer to ensure good quality diffusion.
- Add your candle fragrance at 75°C, then pour the first part of the wax into the container. Leave a space of 1 to 2 cm to allow for the coloured part. Keep a small amount of scented wax for finishing.

- While the first layer is hardening, prepare the coloured wax using the colouring that will announce the baby's sex. Once the wax has melted at 80°C, add your colouring agent. For granular colouring, add it at 75°C. For a liquid colourant, add it at 70°C.
- Once the candle is partially solidified, carefully hollow out the centre using a serrated knife.

- Then pour the coloured wax into this cavity.

- Leave to harden completely for several hours, then cover with the remaining scented wax to mask the colour until burning.

Quick or gradual announcement: how to adapt the moment of revelation
The timing of the reveal depends directly on your filling technique.
For a quick announcement, reduce the margin of your first pour so that the coloured wax becomes visible more quickly. After a few minutes of combustion, the colour will appear and reveal the sex of the unborn child.
For a gradual announcement, increase the margin by leaving more space during the first pour. The revelation will then take place after several hours of burning, prolonging the suspense.
Tips for professionals who want to jump on this trend
