Olive wax is an environmentally-friendlyvegetable wax made from natural olive oil. It is particularly appreciated for its smooth, creamy texture and its excellent ability to diffuse fragrances, both cold and hot. These characteristics make it ideal for making top-of-the-range scented candles and other wax creations.

Naturally clean-burning, olive wax produces very little soot and offers a stable flame, promoting long-lasting combustion and a beautiful visual finish. It represents a sustainable alternative to more traditional waxes such as paraffin wax. Its benefits are similar to those of rapeseed wax, although it is easier to work with. We particularly recommend it for people who are new to creating scented candles or fondants and who want to achieve a shiny effect.

Compatible with many types of container, such as glass, metal or ceramic, it goes very well with perfumes and dyes. It allows for vibrant, personalised and environmentally-friendly creations.

Origin and manufacturing process of olive wax

Generally developed in the United Kingdom, olive waxes work perfectly with perfume oils and fat-soluble dyes. They guarantee excellent olfactory diffusion both hot and cold. Natural, biodegradable, vegan and free from palm oil, paraffin and traces of GMOs, they are a clean, sustainable alternative for making candles.

Obtained by hydrogenating olive oil, the wax is more stable and longer-lasting, while retaining a creamy texture. This process gives the candle a uniformity that is much appreciated during pouring, and a smooth finish that enhances the value of scented creations.

The benefits of olive wax for candles

Like all vegetable waxes, olive wax has its advantages.

A sustainable vegetable wax

Olive wax has won over many candle and fondant designers. Made from hydrogenated olive oil, it is vegetable-based, biodegradable, with no traces of GMOs, no palm oil and no paraffin. Produced mainly around the Mediterranean basin, it is part of a responsible approach that promotes short supply chains.

A gentle, clean burn

Olive wax burns slowly and steadily, with virtually no soot. It reproduces fragrances very well, with a pleasant diffusion both cold and hot. Its naturally creamy texture ensures smooth surfaces and good adhesion to glass.

A safe composition for indoors

Petrochemical-free, vegan and not tested on animals, olive wax does not release undesirable compounds when burned. It is perfectly suited to indoor use.

Our main Kerax olive wax references

We offer wax for candles in containers and/or for moulded candles and melts.

Olive wax for container candles

KeraxEcoOlive wax for container candles offers excellent adhesion to glass walls and a stable, long-lasting scent. With our candle fragrances, a dosage of between 5% and 12% is recommended for optimum fragrance.

Olive wax for moulded and fondant candles

For moulded candles, Kerax PillarBlend EcoOlive olive wax ensures easy removal from the mould and even burning. It accepts up to 12% fragrance for intensely scented creations. For scented fondants, its fragrance retention and clean burn make it an ideal option for diffusing scents effectively both cold and hot.

What wicks to use with olive wax

For moulded candles, you can use flat or round cotton coils as well as wooden wicks or Tea Light wicks for small formats.

For container candles, there is wide compatibility with the TCR, ECO, STABILO and LX series, as well as flat or round cotton wicks and wooden wicks.

Like all vegetable waxes, it may require a slightly thicker wick than paraffin wax. Tests are essential to validate flame, pool and combustion.

Indicative melting points according to grade

Olive wax has a fairly low melting point, making it easy to work with. It is ideal for beginners.

  • Olive wax for container candles: 50°C to 56°C
  • Olive wax for moulded candles and fondants: 62 °C

Colouring olive wax

Olive wax is particularly recommended and compatible with dyes. It naturally produces soft, elegant shades. For an even result, add the colourant in the hot phase (around 70°C), before the fragrance.

  • Granular dyes: up to 5% (depending on desired intensity)
  • Liquid colours: up to 2%.

Homogeneity tip: mix for 1 to 2 minutes after adding the colourant to ensure perfect distribution, then add the fragrance oil.

Perfuming olive wax

Depending on the reference, a fragrance charge of 5 to 12% gives excellent results. Add the fragrance as close as possible to the pouring temperature and mix immediately and carefully so that the fragrance is fully integrated into the wax and ensures optimum diffusion.

You'll find over 500 fragrance references on our site, all from Grasse in the South of France. You can also discover our ranges of fragrances that are CLP-free, UFI-free at 7% and 10%, CMR-free and phthalate-free.

Storing olive wax

Store your wax at room temperature, away from light, humidity and heat sources. It's best to store it in an airtight container to avoid contamination (dust, external odours, humidity) and preserve its performance over time.
