Recipe for an original Halloween candle

Autumn is upon us, and with it the mysterious atmosphere of Halloween. This is the season to decorate our homes with creations that are as original as they are scary! Important: this creation is strictly decorative if you choose to include flammable elements (such as a small plastic skeleton). In this case, the candle must not be lit. For a safe and functional candle, carry out the recipe without incorporating plastic decorations or other flammable materials.

What you need:

  • Container of your choice
  • Wax of your choice (here, we've opted for olive wax)
  • 7-10% fragrance oil (here, "Nature Morte")
  • Biodegradable glitter
  • A wick adapted to the size of your container
  • A beaker
  • A wick centring device, either homemade or ready-to-use
  • A plastic skeleton (if you include this decoration, you won't be able to light the candle - it will be purely decorative).

Making your Halloween candle

Now that the theory is out of the way, it's time to get practical!

1. Prepare your container: centre the wick. If you're using a skeleton, place it carefully at the bottom, around the wick.

2. Melt the wax: bring to use temperature, pour into a beaker, then add 7 to 10% fragrance. Stir for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the fragrance to diffuse fully into the wax.

3. Attach the wick: use a centring pin. For atypical containers, make a homemade centring device (see below).

4. Pour the wax: pour slowly along the wick to avoid bubbles and obtain a smooth surface.

5. Add the finishing touch: sprinkle with biodegradable glitter for a magical, sparkling effect.

Recommendations for use and storage

Use

As stated in the article, this candle is decorative and should not be lit, due to the presence of the plastic skeleton. If you want to make a functional and safe version, simply follow the same DIY steps, removing the skeleton or any other decorative element made of plastic or flammable material. This doesn't apply to the glitter, which is biodegradable and can be left on when the candle is lit.

Storage

To prevent dust particles from settling on the surface and the scent from fading too quickly, cover your candle with a suitable lid or a protective veil that allows air to circulate. This simple precaution will help to preserve the intense scent of your creation.
