Ghosts, shades of orange and white, and, above all, a scent that gently wafts through your home: for Halloween, scented hanging decorations get into the spirit too!
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make pumpkin-shaped scented hangers for Halloween. It’s a simple project that you can personalise with the scent, colours and shapes of your choice.
Hang them in a dressing room, a wardrobe or any other small space to extend the Halloween atmosphere right into every little detail of your home.
What materials do you need to make your Halloween scented hangers?
To recreate this project, you’ll need:
- olive wax for moulded candles and melts;
- fragrance for candles and melts, in this case Black Cherry;
- orange liquidcolouring for candles;
- a mould for scented hangings;
- small Halloween-themedmoulds, in this case ghost moulds;
- accessoriesneeded to melt, weigh and mix your wax.
For our project, we chose the Black Cherry fragrance, paired with white and orange air fresheners.
For the decoration, we used our King Ghost, Jester Ghost and Cuddly Ghost moulds to create the little pumpkins. You can, of course, adapt the shapes to suit your own theme and come up with other combinations.
How to make scented hangings for Halloween?
As we saw in our previous tutorial on floral scented hanging wax melts for wardrobes, these wax creations allow you to delicately fragrance small spaces without the need for a heat source. For this special Halloween version, we’re using the same principle, this time playing around with colours and small wax decorations.
Step 1: prepare your first scented mixture
Start by melting the amount of wax required for your creation. Once the wax is ready to work with, add the fragrance of your choice. For this recipe, we’re using Black Cherry fragrance, at a concentration of between 7 and 10 per cent.
Mix thoroughly to distribute the fragrance evenly throughout the wax.
You can, of course, choose a different fragrance to personalise your creation and craft a scent that better suits your Halloween theme.
Step 2: make the first white hanging candles
Pour some of your scented mixture into two cavities of the hanging candle mould. Please note: do not fill the cavities completely. Pour the wax only halfway up. You’ll need this space later to add the small wax decorations and then make the second pour.
Step 3: prepare the orange hanging candles
Next, prepare a second mixture using the same fragrance. This time, add a few drops of orange liquid food colouring to your wax, then mix until you achieve the desired shade. Pour this orange mixture into the other two mould cavities, again filling them only halfway.
This gives you two white bases and two orange bases, ready to be decorated for Halloween.
Make the little wax pumpkins
Whilst the first pours are setting, prepare the elements that will decorate your scented hangings.
For this version, we’ve chosen three ghost shapes: King Ghost, Mischievous Ghost and Cuddly Ghost, from which we’ve removed the pumpkins.
Pour your mixtures of white and orange wax directly into the different moulds. You can alternate the colours depending on the shapes to create more contrast when assembling them.
Then leave the wax to set completely before gently removing the candles from the moulds.
You can follow this idea exactly or let your creativity run wild with other seasonal shapes.
Assemble your scented hangings
Once the small wax pieces have been removed from the moulds and the first pours have set sufficiently, it’s time for the most creative part: the arrangement. Arrange the pumpkins directly on the hangings however you like.
For example, you could place an orange pumpkin on a white base to emphasise the contrast, or, conversely, create a more monochrome arrangement. Once you’re happy with the layout, fill each mould cavity with wax right up to the rim. This second pour helps to secure the small decorative elements whilst completing the hanging decoration. Then leave your creations to set before carefully removing them from the moulds.
Where should you place a scented hanging decoration?
Once removed from the mould, your hanging decorations are ready to be placed in your smaller spaces!
In particular, they can be hung in a dressing room or wardrobe to gradually release their scent, whilst adding a little decorative touch.
Their appeal lies precisely in this dual function: providing a subtle scent without needing to be heated, whilst creating a small wax object that you can fully personalise.
Just remember to keep your hanging scented wax ornaments away from heat sources to preserve their shape.
Scented hangers and melts: explore more wax creations

The ingredients and techniques are similar, but the purpose differs: a melt is designed to be heated in a fragrance burner, whilst a hanging diffuser releases its scent at room temperature in a small space.
