The different types of mould

Candle moulds come in several materials, each with its own technical characteristics and influence on the quality of the finished piece. The main families are as follows:

• Polycarbonate moulds: highly heat-resistant (up to 120 °C) and fully transparent, they let you watch the wax as it sets and are ideal for coloured and pigmented candles.
• Aluminium moulds: robust under high temperatures, they are the go-to choice for waxes requiring hot pouring and deliver a smooth, precise and durable finish.
• Latex moulds: suited to original shapes and detailed reliefs, they are however not recommended with stearin-based waxes, which can alter the material.
• Silicone moulds: premium, flexible and long-lasting moulds, best used with beeswax or rapeseed wax for flawless unmoulding, even on the most detailed pieces.

How to use them for your candles?

Candle moulds are used differently depending on the piece you wish to make. Two main methods shape their use:

• "Container" moulds: for classic shapes where the wax is simply poured into the container, which then becomes the final support for the candle once cooled — no unmoulding required.
• "Closed" moulds: once poured and set, the wax is fully unmoulded to create a stand-alone piece, ready to use or to gift.
