Adding a touch of fragrance to your indoor spaces has never been easier. Place it on a hanger in a closet, tucked between piles of laundry in a drawer, or discreetly placed in a dresser. Plus, the list of accessories and ingredients needed to make this creation is minimal.

They are an excellent gift idea for your loved ones, in the same spirit as the snapbar scented melts.

What ingredients are needed to make scented wax melts?

Good news: making scented suspensions is within everyone's reach!

For this, you will only need a few essential ingredients :

  • Wax for melts or molded candles
  • Candle fragrance
  • A mold
  • Raffia or thread to hang your creations

To this you can add some creative options :

  • Dye(s)
  • Decoration: dried flowers, mini fondants integrated into the suspension, biodegradable glitter

The accessories needed to help you create scented suspensions are almost identical to those for a scented melt.

Second piece of good news: once the scent has faded, your hanging decorations can easily be transformed into melts. However, be sure to detach the decorations or use a fire retardant for dried flowers and dried plants to prevent the flowers from burning when burning your DIY creations.

What wax should I use for my scented suspensions?

Make sure you choose a wax for molded candles or melts. Let's compare the different waxes so you can make your choice:

Soy wax

Easy to handle and perfectly compatible with fragrances and dyes, this vegetable wax is ideal for beginners. Its main advantage? It's excellent value for money, which makes it an economical option for beginners. However, be careful: it remains less suitable for making fondants, due to its texture once cooled.

Rapeseed wax

Creamier and a little more technical to work with, its naturally oilier texture allows for excellent diffusion of scents, while effectively retaining the fragrance.

Coconut and olive wax

Perfect for making wax pendants and pebbles, these waxes offer an exceptional visual result: smooth, shiny, without defects or traces of crystallization. They guarantee a neat and high-end final result, while enhancing the fragrance. They are ideal allies for artisans seeking an impeccable finish.

Paraffin wax

Its malleable and pleasant texture makes it an ideal wax for custom creations. It blends easily with your favorite fragrances and colorants, giving you total creative freedom.

Thanks to its uniform, stable and residue-free combustion, it guarantees a balanced olfactory diffusion and a soft light, for a complete and refined sensory experience.

Beeswax

Beeswax is not suitable for creating scented suspensions, as this wax is not compatible with plastic molds.

Please note : we therefore recommend coconut and olive wax for creating your scented suspensions.

Choosing the mold

To shape your scented candles, choose silicone molds specially designed for creating scented candles. After pouring, let your candles cool for a few hours at room temperature, then carefully remove them from the mold. To keep your molds pristine, simply clean them with isopropyl alcohol.

At Terre de Bougies, we offer various shapes of silicone molds for scented suspensions.

Choosing your fragrance

To scent your scented suspensions, be sure to use only compatible fragrance oils, such as fragrances specially designed for candles and melts.

  • For classic fragrances, the recommended dosage is between 10% and 15%, to be adjusted according to the desired intensity and your personal tests.
  • With 100% natural origin fragrances, their unique sensory richness allows the dosage to be reduced to just 7 to 10%.
  • As for a boost range, a simple 1% concentration can be enough to provide an intense olfactory result. You thus reduce your costs while maintaining exceptional quality, and can multiply your production by 10.

To help you with your creations, we provide a practical dosage calculator to guarantee a balanced and perfectly flavored result with each pour.

The choice of coloring

Want to add a touch of color to your scented suspensions? Several options are available: grain dyes, liquid dyes, or natural mica powder for a subtle and elegant pearlescent effect.

Here are our dosage recommendations:

  • Grain dyes: approximately 5 g per 1 kg of wax
  • Liquid colorants: up to 15 g per 1 kg of wax
  • Mineral mica powder: 2 to 3 g maximum per 100 g of wax

For best results, we recommend always testing the paint first. The concentration, type of wax, and fragrance can all slightly influence the final color.

What if we decorated it?

Customize your suspensions with:

  • Biodegradable glitter

Keep my suspensions longer

To keep your scented suspensions intact and preserve their fragrance, proper storage is essential. Protecting them from light, heat, and humidity extends their lifespan while preserving their beauty and olfactory intensity.

Our storage tips

  • Wrap each pendant individually, especially if you made them in silicone molds. Use paper bags or other suitable packaging to prevent them from getting scratched or absorbing other odors.
  • Store them flat in an airtight container to preserve their shape and prevent the fragrance from altering.
  • Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the intensity and longevity of the fragrance.
  • Do not mix them together, especially if the scents are different, to avoid olfactory interference.
  • Do not place the suspensions near a direct heat source, as they may melt slightly or the fragrance may evaporate too quickly.

Give them a second life by transforming them into fondants

When the scent of your candle begins to fade, give it a new lease on life by transforming it into a scented wax melt. Simply melt it in a wax burner to enjoy its fragrant notes one last time.

If there are any decorations on your hangings that you want to melt, be sure to detach them or use a fire retardant for dried flowers and dried plants to prevent the flowers from burning when burning your DIY creations.

Conclusion

Creating your own scented pendants combines creativity, fragrance, and practicality. Both decorative and olfactory, they adapt to any space and reflect your world. An excellent gift idea, to add to a gift box or to give for any occasion!
